Youth Peer Support Specialist: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Youth Peer Support Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will use your personal experience with mental health recovery to provide peer-based support to youth diagnosed with serious emotional disturbances. By fostering trust and connection, you will play a vital role in promoting wellness, encouraging personal growth, and supporting each young person’s recovery journey.

PAY RANGE/BENEFIT PACKAGE: 
Salary: starting at $39,222.86 annually - placement above minimum salary is based on experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Aged 18-26 (per MDHHS guidelines)
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Lived experience receiving behavioral health services as a youth.
  • Obtain certification approved by the State of Michigan as a Youth Peer Specialist within 6 months of employment.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and auto insurance coverage or eligibility.
  • Access to reliable transportation to carry out job duties.
  • One year of experience working in a public behavioral health setting preferred.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as a support and resource for youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED) who are receiving services in the behavioral health system.
  • Act as a key member of the treatment team by working with youth one on one or in a group.
  • Support youth empowerment by assisting youth in skill development to improve their overall functioning and quality of life.
  • Provide interventions as part of the treatment plan.
  • Prepare and support youth to fully participate in their own meetings and treatment planning process.
  • Complete documentation according to agency, funding, regulatory and best practice standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, coaching, and training as
  • Respect, value and support youth to express their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT/TECHNOLOGY KNOWLEDGE: 
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR's).
POSITIONS TO BE FILLED: 
  • One part-time position (20 hours/week) open until filled.
